I have always had a fascination for photos.
I can remember when I was little, sitting in my moms bedroom on the floor, looking through her pictures that were stored in grocery bags. (that's what you did "back then" wasn't it?) As I great into my teens, I can remember having a fascination for cameras and for photographs of any kind. Apparently that fascination hasn't gone away. I thought I was set in my career as a Sign Language Interpreter.
I have always loved my job. My photography was always a hobby that I was striving to improve. However, another hobby (or obsession!) that I have is scrap booking. This started when my son was born. I knew I wanted to document all of his special moments that I was so afraid that I would forget someday. I loved being able to document his life in such a creative way. People have suggested to me, when reading my scrapbooks, that I should go back to school for journalism. I have been told that I have a way with words that makes the reader feel as though they are "in the moment" with me. I feel that this goes "hand in hand" with my photography.
So for me, it was natural to continue to improve my photography skills as well. I took more advance classes, workshops and visited many forums online. What started as a hobby, soon became my passion in life. My family is always teasing me because at family functions, I am always carrying my camera around. I want these
moments documented. I want people to look at my pictures and know what is happening, to feel as though they are there. I love that when my kids get older, they will have these pictures that document their lives.
I had a discussion with someone recently about creating a "perfect photograph" of her family. Creating the "traditional posed portrait" isn't my thing. I am looking to capture the moments. Capturing you life. Life isn't perfect. Relax. Have fun. Be real. Be yourself.
